972. Launch a model rocket

When I was a kid, my two brothers and I, under the guidance of our dad, would go out into some big open field and launch model rockets into the sky. There’s nothing quite like the excitement and anticipation as you shout out the countdown, imitating the NASA professionals: “Five… four… three… two… ONE!”

And then it’s gone, replaced with a pillar of smoke that twists up into the atmosphere. If you have quick enough eyes, you can follow the whole thing from start to finish, when the rocket either crashes into the ground or ejects a tiny parachute to slow its fall (which usually ends with it crashing into the ground anyway).

If you’ve never done this before, you are missing out!
